Lotus Notes Delivery on Citrix With no redirection

IBM Lotus Notes has always been a tricky customer to deliver in a multi user/roaming user environment.

IBM tell you NOT to redirect the notes directory to a network share.
If you do this you are likely to suffer hangs and drop outs.

To this end a hybrid solution is to copy the notes files locally to the terminal server on user logon and then copy them back to network storage at logoff. (handle them like a massive profile)

In our configuration we have mininimised the file copys required to the local server to the following.

names.nsf
keyview.ini
bookmark.nsf
desktop8.ndk
headline.nsf
journal.nsf
user.dic
perfwea.nsf
as_*>nsf
User.id

We are looking at zipping the files up before sending across the network.
They can then be read back down in zip format and uncompressed before notes launch.
Testing shows the notes file compression ratio of around 80% so a massive saving on network traffic and network file storage should be achievable.
